MRT3 Construction May Not Begin Until 2027
The construction of MRT3 may be delayed until 2027 as land acquisition continues, with economic factors influencing the timeline.
MRT3 Delayed Due to Land Acquisition Process
KUALA LUMPUR: The construction of the Mass Rapid Transit 3 (MRT3) project is unlikely to begin before 2027, as the ongoing land acquisition process is expected to delay the project’s launch, MRT Corp CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim stated.
Zarif revealed that public inspections are currently underway and will continue until December 2. Afterward, MRT Corp plans to finalize the alignment and proceed with land acquisition, a process expected to last up to two years, potentially extending into 2026.
The Road Ahead: Economic Considerations for 2027 Launch
“We’re aiming for 2027, but the pace will be dependent on economic factors,” Zarif noted. “Given the improving economic landscape, we’re hopeful that by then, we will have the necessary backing to move ahead,” he added. He made these comments at a press conference during the Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA 2024).
MRT Corp’s Award for Klang Valley MRT Project
MRT Corp’s efforts on the Klang Valley MRT project were recognized with the “Best Project Award in Infrastructure (Major Category)” at this year’s MCIEA. The MRT3, also referred to as the Circle Line, will complete the Klang Valley MRT network, linking key transit systems to create an integrated transportation hub. The 51km rail line will carry up to 25,000 passengers per hour, with a total travel time of 73 minutes.
