Authorities in Johor have detained a Bangladeshi national following allegations of animal abuse. The suspect, a 45-year-old factory worker, was captured on video allegedly hitting a dog with a stick. The footage, shared by Instagram user Updateinfo11, quickly went viral, drawing widespread condemnation. A 33-year-old local resident, disturbed by the video, reported the matter to the authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest on February 24.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee confirmed the arrest and stated that the case falls under Section 428 of the Penal Code and Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015. The suspect is expected to be brought before the Kulai Magistrate’s Court on February 28 for remand proceedings. If found guilty, he could face significant legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment.

Dog’s Well-being and Public Reactions

The abused dog has been rescued and is currently in the care of a local resident. Authorities have confirmed that the animal is in stable condition. Animal welfare activists and concerned citizens have condemned the incident, calling for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws in Malaysia.
