Comm Ramli: Social Media Investment Schemes Are Scams

Unrelenting Scam Syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR: Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, director of Bukit Aman’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), stated that all investment schemes advertised on social media are scams. He voiced his frustration at the persistence of scam syndicates and the continued victimization of individuals despite repeated warnings.

Late and Inaccurate Reporting

“Victims are often late in reporting their losses to the authorities, and many cannot even remember where they first encountered these fake investment offers on social media,” he explained.

Joint Efforts to Tackle Fraud

Comm Ramli assured that the CCID is closely collaborating with the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to remove such fraudulent ads under Section 263(2) of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

Public Guidance for Investment Verification

He also responded to an NGO’s request for more stringent actions, urging the public to verify investment schemes by checking trusted websites like SC Investor Alert List, SC Investment Checker, and others.

Scam Reports on the Rise

Between January and September, there were 4,355 cases of investment scams, with 82% stemming from social media ads.
