PM Anwar The Increasing Need for Cyber Resilience

PETALING JAYA: In today’s digital world, cyber threats continue to pose significant risks, and ensuring a secure cyberspace requires collective action from the government, private sector, and the public, says PM Anwar Ibrahim. His senior press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, stated that Anwar chaired the first National Cybersecurity Meeting on Tuesday (March 11) to address key concerns.

“The complexity of cyber threats grows in tandem with technological advancements, making it crucial to establish a strong cybersecurity framework. The responsibility of safeguarding Malaysia’s digital landscape does not rest solely on the government; businesses and individuals must also play their part,” he explained in a statement shared on Anwar’s Facebook page.

Cybersecurity Act and Future Initiatives

The meeting highlighted Malaysia’s cybersecurity progress, noting a decrease in cyber incidents from 2023 to 2024. Discussions included updates on the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Act 854), which will be reinforced with the appointment of a national critical information infrastructure (NCII) chief and cybersecurity professionals. Additionally, the government plans to introduce a “Cyber Games” initiative and co-host an ASEAN cybercrime conference in May 2025 with Nacsa, the Council of Europe, and Interpol.

Encouraging Cooperation and Religious Discussions

Tunku Nashrul urged Malaysian cybersecurity experts to collaborate with the government to strengthen national digital security using local expertise. On a separate note, Anwar welcomed religious scholars from Kelantan to the PMO, engaging in discussions on Islamic policies, religious education, and unity in addressing differences within the Muslim community.
