Mother Fights for Justice After Daughter’s Death in Tragic Accident
A grieving mother calls for justice after her daughter is killed by a falling container in Bukit Mertajam.
A Grieving Mother’s Plea
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Lim Sheau Ling, 42, is a mother shattered by grief. Her daughter, Lee Zi Rou, 21, lost her life in a horrifying accident on Jalan Bukit Tengah. A container fell from a lorry onto the car Lee was in, crushing it and killing her instantly on Wednesday morning (Nov 13).
Demands for Accountability
Lim is urging authorities to take legal action against both the truck driver and the company responsible for the vehicle involved in the incident. “My daughter is gone, but I must fight for justice. No one else should suffer like this,” she said, her voice breaking.
Support from Authorities
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong visited the family, offering condolences and confirming financial assistance through the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
A Final Goodbye
Lee, who was a kind and hardworking individual, made a heart-wrenching final call to her mother, pleading for help. “Mummy, it hurts so much, please help me,” she cried. Unfortunately, Lim arrived at the scene too late.
Socso Aid to Ease Burden
Minister Sim revealed that Lee, a clerk at Lo Best Smart Solution, had been a Socso contributor since October 2022. The family is entitled to RM3,000 for funeral expenses and RM913.50 in monthly payments under the Dependents’ Benefit.
A Devastating Loss
The family is also set to receive counselling and free legal services to help them cope with their grief. Lee will be cremated at the Berapit Crematorium on Sunday (Nov 17).
