KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, convened a pivotal meeting to discuss the future of Malaysian football, alongside Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and FAM president Tan Sri Hamidin Amin in Johor Bahru.
The meeting, held after the 2025 Budget announcement, focused on pressing matters regarding the national team and youth programs.
This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement of RM15 million for football development, aimed at securing top coaches, upgrading training programs, and providing player incentives.
“Tunku Mahkota Ismail, the Regent of Johor, welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Johor Chief Minister Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on Oct 23, where various topics regarding current affairs and Johor were discussed.
“FAM president Hamidin and Sports Minister Hannah were also present, engaging in discussions about Malaysian football’s future and development plans,” the statement explained.
These talks highlight a concerted effort among the government, FAM, and Johor royalty to elevate Malaysia’s football ambitions.
With investments aimed at the national, Under-18, and Under-13 teams, this collaboration seeks to bolster Malaysia’s standing on the international football stage and develop local talent.
