Fatal Container Accident in Bukit Mertajam
Police in Penang arrested a trailer driver after his container fell onto a woman’s vehicle, killing her at an intersection on Jalan Bukit Tengah on November 13.
Investigation Under the Road Transport Act
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Helmi Aris confirmed the driver, 51, was arrested for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Initial Screening Results
The driver underwent initial tests for alcohol and drugs, which came back negative. Authorities will seek a remand order at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Victim’s Identity and Injuries
Lee Zi Rou, 21, was driving to work when the trailer lost control. The falling container crushed her car, and it also damaged other vehicles. Tan Chou Theng, 25, was seriously injured in his Honda Jazz.
Details of the Collision
At around 9:30 AM, five cars and a lorry waited at a traffic light on Jalan Kebun Sirih. A trailer turning left from Jalan Bukit Tengah lost control, dropping its container onto two stopped vehicles. The impact caused a chain reaction, pushing the vehicles into three other cars and a lorry.
