Seven Questioned in UM Cat Death Investigation

KUALA LUMPUR: Investigations into the deaths of cats at Universiti Malaya (UM) have led to seven individuals being questioned, including a lecturer, several students, and an animal activist.

According to city police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, a cat carcass submitted by the activist on Dec 21 has been sent for forensic veterinary analysis.

Parking Lot Incident Adds to Mystery

“Another cat, discovered on Dec 25 in the sports faculty parking area, has also been submitted for an autopsy. The examinations are scheduled for Dec 27,” he confirmed in a Dec 26 statement.

Animal Welfare Organization Demands Thorough Probe

The incident prompted Kelab Kucing Malaysia to call for a detailed probe. Its president, Khalid Rashid, requested authorities to involve experts to ensure a comprehensive review.

CCTV Footage Reveals Attack by Stray Dogs

Police shared findings from Dec 22 surveillance footage, showing stray dogs attacking the cats, with veterinary authorities verifying that the injuries matched such attacks.
