Halal Certification Now Mandatory for Kelantan Businesses
Halal certification becomes a must-have for Kelantan businesses, covering restaurants, hotels, and more sectors.
New Policy for Business Owners
Businesses in Kelantan will now need Malaysian Halal Certification before they can renew their licenses with local authorities, according to a new directive.
Pioneering Role of Kota Bharu Municipal Council
The Kota Bharu Municipal Council-Islamic City is the first to enforce this policy, with other districts expected to follow soon, said Mohd Asri Mat Daud, the State Committee for Islamic Development chairman.
“This step will eventually expand to all local authorities, Insya-Allah,” he shared during a Halal Certification ceremony for Nasken International Sdn. Bhd on Thursday (Dec 26).
Certification Statistics for 2024
Utusan Malaysia reported that Kelantan has issued 453 halal certificates to various businesses since January, including hotels, eateries, pharmacies, and salons.
Of these, 405 were awarded to Malay-owned establishments, while 48 went to non-Islamic businesses.
Eight Conditions for Certification
Mohd Asri emphasized that applicants must adhere to eight specific requirements. “It’s about ensuring every aspect of the process, from food to the kitchen setup, meets halal standards,” he stated.
Inspections and Compliance Monitoring
Collaborative inspections involving Jakim, the Health Ministry, and the Domestic Trade Ministry will be conducted regularly, including unannounced checks.
Kota Bharu leads the state in certifications, with nearly 190 certified premises, compared to six or seven in other districts.
