JOHOR BARU: A married couple is among three people arrested by police after a significant drug seizure valued at over RM700,000 in Bandar Seri Alam.
Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak revealed that the arrests occurred at 9:30 PM on October 18, following a week-long surveillance operation conducted by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
The suspects were taken into custody while allegedly preparing to deliver drugs to other members of their syndicate, who have not yet been apprehended. “This group is likely part of a larger operation. Their role is to transport drugs from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru,” Supt Sohaimi stated.
The suspects had collected the drugs and were waiting for others in the syndicate to pick them up. The vehicle used for transporting the drugs will be transferred to the distribution members.
The three individuals arrested include a 58-year-old local man, his 45-year-old foreign wife, and a 40-year-old male driver. All three tested negative for drugs. Background checks indicated that the local man has two prior drug-related convictions, while the driver has seven and the woman has one.
Reports indicate that this group has been active since July. During the operation, police seized 20 packets of syabu weighing approximately 22kg, with an estimated value of RM705,472. Each packet, weighing around 1kg, is worth over RM30,000.
Police also confiscated the syndicate’s vehicle, valued at RM45,000. The suspects are currently on remand until Thursday, October 31, to assist in the investigation. The case is being examined under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
