Kinabatangan River Crocodile Attack Claims Life of 40-Year-Old Man

The body of a 40-year-old man attacked by a crocodile was discovered 1km downstream from where his boat capsized.

KOTA KINABALU: The body of a man who was believed to have fallen victim to a crocodile attack has been found by villagers along the Kinabatangan River. Masdi Sahar, 40, was discovered Friday (Dec 27) about 1 km from where his boat capsized.

Boat Collision Leads to Tragic Attack

Masdi and three companions were aboard a boat carrying belian wood when the vessel collided with an unidentified object, causing it to capsize. While three of the men managed to swim to safety, Masdi’s cries for help were heard as he was attacked by the crocodile. Unfortunately, the others were unable to reach him in time.

Coordinated Search and Rescue Operation

Emergency crews were notified of the tragedy at 1:35 pm on Thursday. The fire department, police, wildlife rangers, and local villagers worked together to locate Masdi’s body. The search team arrived at the scene at 2:45 pm and began their mission immediately.

Investigation Underway to Determine Cause of Death

Masdi’s body has been handed over to the police for further examination. Initial reports suggest that Masdi and a friend were fishing at the time of the attack.
