CIOB Malaysia celebrates 50 years with Building Excellence Awards in Petaling Jaya. Honors construction leaders and women in the industry advancing building standards.

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Malaysia held its 50th Anniversary Golden Jubilee Dinner and Building Excellence Awards Night 2026 in Petaling Jaya on 23 October, bringing together construction industry leaders, professional bodies and government representatives to mark five decades of advancing construction standards in the country.

CIOB Malaysia president Loi Yew Hua said the institute remained committed to preparing local professionals for an industry undergoing rapid technological change. He pointed to artificial intelligence, digital twins and modern construction methods as developments creating new opportunities, and said the institute had a responsibility to help members build the competencies to apply these technologies responsibly.

Paying tribute to those who established the institute in 1976, Loi acknowledged the generational effort behind its growth. “Tonight, we have the privilege of celebrating what they began and what so many others have helped build,” he said.

The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia was among the bodies represented at the dinner, with its chairman Datuk Yusuf Abd Wahab attending.

Women in Construction Recognised at Awards Ceremony

Alongside the jubilee commemoration, the evening featured the CIOB Malaysia Building Excellence Awards 2026, which recognised outstanding performance across several categories including premier contractors, project leaders, specialists and academics.

YTL Corporation Berhad executive director Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng received the Woman of the Year Award at the ceremony. Speaking to Bernama, she described the recognition as a meaningful moment for gender diversity in the sector, noting that she had entered civil engineering at a time when women were discouraged from the field. “I’m very honoured to be given this award and it also shows women empowerment,” she said.

Yeoh also used the occasion to encourage young women to pursue careers in construction without hesitation, saying they were capable of making meaningful contributions to nation-building.
