Incident Overview
SHAH ALAM: The death of a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) cadet during Palapes training at the Shah Alam campus has been attributed to heat stroke, with no evidence of external injuries.
Cause of Death Identified
According to Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the student succumbed to multiple organ failure caused by severe heat stroke. The incident has been officially classified as a case of sudden death.
Details of the Incident
Comm Hussein explained that on Nov 10, the student fainted during a marching exercise and was rushed to Shah Alam Hospital. Investigators discovered that the student had recently joined Palapes training in late October and was undergoing fitness assessments in preparation for the basic training program starting next year.
Health Complications During Hospitalization
The student reportedly fell behind during a running session and was instructed by the trainer to perform push-ups as punishment. Despite medical intervention, including hydration efforts, the victim’s condition worsened, leading to his admission to the ICU. He passed away three days later, on Nov 13.
